Key Largo Offshore and Deep Sea Fishing Charters
Key Largo in the Florida Keys has it all. One of the world’s best natural coral reefs, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is located right out front. This marine habitat offers bait fish, as well as bottom fish a sanctuary and the result is world class fishing action that can’t be beat.
Bottom fishing on the local wrecks or the reef line just outside the park provides opportunities to catch trophy Mutton Snapper, as well as Black and Gag Grouper. Careful though, if you hook into an Amberjack (also known as Reef Donkeys or AJ’s), you’ll be in for quite a battle. AJ’s can grow to well over 100 lbs. and they pull hard!
In the winter months when targeting Sailfish we often run north to the Ocean Reef area where the bite tends to be red hot. A 30-40 minute boat ride from Key Largo, Ocean Reef is a secluded area not easily accessible from anywhere else in the Florida Keys.
The spring an summer months bring large schools of Mahi Mahi and Blackfin tuna to Key Largo. That’s when Captain Jim likes to run offshore and search for birds picking off bait fish trying to escape the school of fish hunting them from below. This exciting style of fishing means you can see the fish take your bait right on the surface and offers fly fisherman the opportunity to connect with a variety of pelagic species.

This is when the upper station on the 34’ SeaVee “Twice Bitten” becomes a major advantage for spotting feeding fish at a distance.
